About Us
Where Self Care Meets Nostalgia
Mainland Vintage is a Brooklyn-based bath and body brand, handcrafted in small batches from our studio in Gowanus. Every product is inspired by vintage travel, with a story and scent to match. They should evoke the postcards people used to send home, and the feeling of getting a beautifully written letter from somewhere far away. We've always set out to make products that fit into your self-care routine, but carry a little more fun and nostalgia than the norm.
The Story Behind Mainland Vintage
Mainland Vintage started in 2020 as a soap-making hobby in a Brooklyn apartment. Founder Sara Russell had spent years in marketing, but fell in love with the creative process of this medium. That intersected with building a brand that could bring her love of history and storytelling into a physical product. We officially launched in March 2021, and the workspace has grown from a kitchen counter into a full studio.
The airmail and travel aesthetic was there from day one. Vintage stamp-inspired graphics and typewriter fonts set the tone, with packaging that carries the look of a postcard from somewhere far away. Even the name Mainland Vintage carries that idea forward, with a sense of place paired with a nod to the past.
What Drives Us
Every soap we create is built around a place or a moment in time. Twilight Saguaro carries the quiet heat of a desert evening. The Victory Collection leans into 1940s themes and aesthetic. Brooklyn Brownstone reminds us of the beautiful homes we pass on our walk to work. Each one is handcrafted in small batches, using ingredients you can pronounce, like shea butter and coconut oil, and our scrubs get their texture from natural exfoliants like walnut shells and poppy seeds. We also built Mainland Vintage around US-based and women-owned suppliers who hold themselves to the same standards we do.
